South African Chad Le Clos spoke to the media today prior to the start of the first stop of the World Cup circuit in Chartres, France.
Le Clos was first asked about his thoughts on his historic three-way tie in the 100 fly at the Olympics with Michael Phelps and Laszlo Cseh. Le Clos mentioned how finishing the meet with a three-way tie for silver was a bit of a ‘high’ after an overall disappointing Games. He noted the meet ‘wasn’t too bad’ earning two silver medals, but obviously didn’t do as well as he had hoped.
He also spoke about the World Cups, and how in the initial cluster of meets he’s just going to see where he’s at, and aim to progressively get faster throughout the series. Le Clos also joked “thanks very much FINA for making it short course“, after the series was switched to long course last year to help prepare athletes for the Olympics.
The last time the series was short course in 2014, Le Clos went on an unbelievable streak that saw him never lose a race throughout the series, ultimately winning four gold medals at the Short Course World Championships in Doha.
Le Clos won both the 2013 and 2014 Overall World Cup titles, but was beat out by countryman Cameron van der Burgh last year.
Le Clos will contest four events in Chartres: the 50, 100 and 200 fly, and 200 IM.
You see the way Katinka was looking at Chad? Shane is going to be miffed!
LOL
In the next 4 years Chad will drop 200fly long I’m sure.
100/200free 100fly.
I think Chad could of won a medal in 100free in Rio. He had. 47.7 in him at least, he went 48.1 from lane 8 at the Moscow WC last year.
He has so much easy speed these days.
Scm he is a god. Almost unbeatable in many events, reminiscence of lochte in his prime.
Why not Long Course? We wants to see you go a sub 1:54 in 200 fly 🙂
