VMI Women’s Water Polo Splits Two MAAC Contests

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women’s water polo team split two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contests Saturday in Clark King Pool, defeating Siena College 16-13 but falling 14-12 to #24-ranked Iona College.

McKenna Imset scored six times in the victory over Siena. Rachel Ahumada and Maddie Berry each had hat tricks and Genevieve Petrassi posted two goals and five assists. Sydney Shettleroe had two goals and one assist and drew four exclusions. Berry added three steals and Katie Lloyd earned the win in net, making three saves with two steals and an assist.

Georgia Vargas had five goals for the Saints (0-2/0-2 MAAC).

Iona rallied from a 6-4 deficit at halftime in the second game. Catherine Ahumada had four goals to lead the Keydets, while Shettleroe had three scores, one assist and three drawn exclusions. Imset posted two goals and an assist, Makenna Moore had a goal and a helper and Genevieve Petrassi had one assist and four steals. Lloyd made 10 stops.

Maeve Wydan had four goals and two assists for Iona (1-0/1-0).

The Keydets (4-8/1-3 MAAC) travel to New York next weekend to take on Marist College and Long Island University on Saturday.
