BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont cruised to victory over America East foe Maine 172.5-121.5 on Saturday afternoon at Forbush Natatorium, winning 13 of the 16 events. With the victory Vermont moves to 4-2 and 2-1 in the America East and Maine falls to 0-1 and 0-1 in the America East after their first meet of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts got off to a hot start earning the first victory of the day in the 200 medley relay. The combination of First year’s Autumn Bullinger and Natalie Schlemmer along with Hally Laney and Mina Poppas took home first place in a time of 1:47.82.
- Bullinger also took home first place in the 100 backstroke finishing in a time of 59.38. Beth Hartog finished in second in a time of 1:00.74. Hartog also took home second in the 200 backstroke finishing in a time of 2:10.51.
- First year Emma Wainwright earned another victory on the season taking first in the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:08.01.
- Vermont would continue their dominance in the 1000 yard freestyle claiming the top three places. Jackie House finished first in a time of 10:32.56 a full 15 seconds ahead of the next closest swimmer. Emily Rocco and Molly Williams rounded out the top three with Rocco finishing in 10:51.56 and Williams coming in at 10:52.25.
- Hally Laney had herself a day, earning three individual victories in the 100 fly (57.40), 200 fly (2:08.02) and the 200 IM (2:11.29). Laney was also a part of the 200 medley relay team that took home first place in the first event.
- Jackie House and Ella Church each earned two individual victories on the day. With House claiming first in the 1000 freestyle as well as first in the 100 freestyle coming in at a time of 53.79.
- Ella Church finished first in the 500 freestyle in dominating fashion, a full 14.5 seconds ahead of the field. Church also finished second in the 200 freestyle in 1:55.89 just a second and a half behind teammate Mina Poppas who earned the victory.
- First year Natalie Schlemmer had a strong performance earning the victory as part of the 200 medley relay. Schlemmer also took home first in the 200 backstroke (2:24.87) just ahead of fellow Catamount first year Lily Acker. Schlemmer also finished second in the 100 breaststroke finishing in a time of 1:07.17.
- Anna Shoudt earned her first career individual victory in a tight race in the 50 freestyle which resulted in a tie. Shoudt and Maine swimmer Liz Stoelzel finished even in a time of 25.30.
- Annika Overvig garnered her first victory on the campaign taking home the three-meter dive with a score of 231.07. Overvig also came in third in the one-meter dive finishing with a score of 214.35.
UP NEXT
Following today’s meet, the Catamounts will be on the road for the Harold Anderson Invitational in Kingston, Rhode Island. The annual invitational brings together swimming and diving teams from multiple universities and colleges to compete at the Tootell Aquatic Center at the University of Rhode Island. The invitational is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. ET on Friday, November 18. The invitational will go all day Friday and keep the same pattern for Saturday and Sunday.

Burlington, Vermont – The University of Maine women’s swim & dive team falls to Vermont in first America East meet of the season with a final score of 121.5.
Kayla Loughman, Liz Stoelzel, and Ashley LeClaire each registered an individual win for the Black Bears.
Maine was victorious in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a team of Kayla Loughman, Liz Stoelzel, Mia Porier, and Alicia Littler who finished with a time of 1:40.56.
Kayla Loughman captured her win in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.03. Liz Stoelzel picked up her win in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.30.
On the diving boards, Ashley LeClaire would capture her individual win in the 1 meter dive with a score of 223.64.
Vermont finished the meet with a score of 172.5 and had notable performances from Emma Wainwright, Jackie House, and Ella Church.
