WOMEN: The Milwaukee women’s swimming and diving team continued its 2017-18 campaign Friday with a 131-69 victory over against Wheaton College in the Jonathan Lederhouse Natatorium.
A different Panther contributed towards each event win as UWM swam a perfect 11-for-11.
Milwaukee garnered two first place wins in both relay races. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Shelby Rozeboom, Jenn Kordik, Annabelle Ladik and Kady Ruemmele, came in three full seconds ahead of the Thunder touching the wall at 1:38.12. The 200-yard medley relay saw similar results as the Panthers took the top three spots on the podium, with the winning time coming in at 1:48.86.
Junior Jenn Kordik swam neck-in-neck with Wheaton’s Brooke Barnes in the 100 freestyle winning in photo finish time of 53.60 with Barnes finishing in at 53.64.
In the 50-yard freestyle, the Panthers swept the podium with Arica Smith leading the way timing in at 24.21, while Emma Helgeson (24.8) and Meegan Snyman(25.44) finished in second and third respectively.
Similar results occurred in the 1000 freestyle as Adrienne DiFoggio paced UMW for a first place finish of 10:56.43 and Carissa Schneider (10:59.19) and Rachel Slingsby (11:15.32) followed in order.
Freshman Kristina Larsen earned her first collegiate event win, taking the 100-yard breaststroke with a fast time of 1:07.91.
Veterans Addison Skogman (500 free), Gabby Sanchez (100 backstroke) and Alena Bodnaruk picked up first place wins in their respective events as well.
UWM looks to continue its winning ways on Saturday, Nov. 4 against UIC. The meet is set to being at 11 a.m.
MEN: The Milwaukee men’s swimming and diving team swam a near perfect meet winning 10-of-11 events over Wheaton College on Friday at the Jonathan Lederhouse Natatorium.
Junior Ben Cadel led the Panthers with two individual events and swam on the victorious 200-yard freestyle relay team. Cadel won the 100-yard freestyle in a quick 47.47 seconds and swam the 200-yard freestyle in 1:44.23.
Starting with sprints, Panthers Jasper Appleton and Will Hobbs proved to be a one-two punch in the event finishing right behind each other. Appleton came in at 21.86 while Hobbs finished merely .11 behind at 21.97 seconds.
The Panthers also went the distance taking the top three podium spots in the 1000-yard freestyle event. Jacob Fase came in at 10:03.86 while Andrew Kasper (10:11) and Brian Boehm (10:39.13) finished in second and third place.
Senior Kyle Gerum secured an individual event win in the 100-yard backstroke, and helped the 200-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay win as well. In the backstroke, he finished in 52.59 seconds – six full seconds ahead Wheaton’s top finisher at 58.85.
UWM looks to continue its winning ways on Saturday, Nov. 4 against UIC. The meet is set to being at 11 a.m.
