The University of Connecticut has hired Matt Donovan as their new assistant coach, head coach Bob Goldberg announced on Tuesday.

His previous college experience comes from 5 years spent as a volunteer assistant at Rutgers University, which coincided with the last 14 years as the Program Director at the Somerset Valley YMCA, which he has built into a national power at the YMCA level. He left that program earlier this summer to take a job with the Broward County YMCA in Florida – which wound up being a short-lived position.

In the spring of 2014, his women’s team placed 6th and his men’s team placed 5th at the YMCA Short Course National Championships – the latest in a long line of high finishes for his teams.

Donovan was a four-year letter winner at nearby Division III Keene State College in New Hampshire. where he was a team captain as a senior in the 1997-1998 season.
