RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The UC San Diego men’s and women’s swimming and diving team edged California Baptist at Lancer Aquatic Center. The men won 158-140 while the men won 154-141.
WOMEN
The women opened up the meet with a dominate performance in the 200-yard medley relay and took the top two spots. The team of Jordan Phillips, Katja Pavicevic, Miranda Renner and Cody Hargadon came up on top with a time of 1:41.34.
The Tritons swept the top three spots in the 1000-yard freestyle relay as Julissa Arzave, Ellie Whitney and Kaitlyn Ritchey finished 1-2-3.
Tina Reuter would earn three wins on the day with top times in the 400-yard IM (4:23.29), 200-yard butterfly (2:01.48) and 200-yard backstroke (2:0.66). Reuter would beat out teammate Valerie Yue in the backstroke by almost five seconds.
Katja Pavicevic earned two wins in 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.49) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:13.65). Brittney Miles touched first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.62 while Renner took first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.42.
Jasmyn Cheng placed second in the 3-meter and third in the 3-meter.
MEN
The men finished on top in the 200-yard medley relay with the team of Tyler James, Edgar Chin, Lance Freiman and Spencer Daily clocking in at 1:28.16.
The Tritons swept the top three spots in two events that day. Zack Reuter finished the 400-yard IM in 3:57.80 with Davis Taylor and Jack Spitser right behind him. Spitser would finish on top in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:34.97. Derek Fordham and Mitchell Stoddard rounded out the top three. Reuter would also win the 200-yard freestyle (1:38.79) and take second in the 100-yard freestyle (45.72)
Both Ivan Kurakin and Edgar Chin would pick up a win. Kurakin would touch the wall first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:46.44 while Chin won the 100-yard breaststroke in 55.57 seconds.
Davis sat atop the podium in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:23.59. Spencer Daily finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.36.
Kyland Parenti finished second in the 1-meter and third in the 3-meter. His score of 277.28 was .63 off second place.
UP NEXT
The men will have on last competition at home when they host California on February 7 at 3 pm. The second part of the meet will take place the following day at 10 a.m. at Southwestern College. The women will race one final duel meet at University of San Diego at noon.

RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University erupted and set two pool and three meet records in its final dual and home event of the season on Saturday against UC San Diego. The Lancers also logged three new top-10 times in program history.
Jacob Leahy had a hand in both pool and all three meet records for the Lancers on Saturday. He set meet records in the 100 free and 100 back on respective times of 44.84 and 49-seconds flat, with the latter being a pool best, as well.
The Lancers’ 400-free relay team of Leahy, Sean Foster, Colton Babcock and Josh Walters also won in a meet and pool record 2:58.97.
Evan Honer’s debut season of dominance continued, as he won both boards, with a score of 298.80 on 1-meter and 281.63 on 3-meter. Zane Freeman finished top-three on both boards, too, taking second on 3-meter (277.95) and third on 1-meter (247.20).
The Tritons, who are ranked fifth in all of NCAA Division II, won the dual on a score of 154-141. CBU ends its dual season with a 3-5 record, and will next compete at the Air Force Diving Invitational next Friday and Saturday before heading into the Western Athletic Conference Championships (Feb. 26-29).
CBU’s highest scoring event of the day came when it swept first through third in the 200 butterfly, thanks to Adityastha Wratsangka (1:50.14), David Miller (1:50.24) and senior Quinn Birtles (1:50.68).
Babcock and Foster also teamed up for four top-three finishes between them in breaststroke events. Babcock set new top-10 times for the Lancers, with his win in the 200 breast in 2:00.96 and runner-up finish in the 100 (56.01). Foster took second in the 200 (2:02.44) and third in the 100 (56.43).
Josh Walters added another individual win for CBU in the 100 butterfly (48.52) and also took second in the 50 free (20.40). Christian Meyer cracked the Lancers’ top-10 in the 1000 free when he took second place in 9:35.33.
The Lancers also got third-place swims from Kyle White in the 100 free (45.78), Matthew Niculae in the 200 free (1:39.82) and Trevor Van Law in the 200 back (1:52.23).
RIVERSIDE – Senior Day brought out the best in many Lancers, as California Baptist University hosted its final home event of the season in a dual with UC San Diego on Saturday.
The Lancers turned in several of their best times of the season and their history in the process, with three pool and four new meet records set on the day. CBU also logged nine new top-10 marks logged in the dual with the top-ranked Tritons of NCAA Division I, who pulled out the 158-140 victory. The Lancers end their dual season with a 2-4-1 record and will next compete at the Air Force Diving Invitational next Friday and Saturday before heading into the Western Athletic Conference Championships (Feb. 26-29).
Sophomore Rebeca Oviedo continued to be a driving force for CBU, as she had a hand in three of the meet/pool records set on Saturday. She did so twice individually, with wins in the 200 and 500-yard freestyles with respective times of one minute, 49.73 seconds and 4:53.95.
Oviedo also swam on the winning 400-free relay team, with Rita Smirnova, Hannah Houlton and Isabella Rhodes, which logged a record time of 3:24.67.
Rhodes also won the 100 free with a meet-record time of 50.98 and took second in the 100 butterfly (56.15). She also posted a new top-10 time in the 200 free, as she took fourth in 1:52.29, which ranks 10th in Lancer history.
CBU also won both boards, with Savannah Uhlir posting a new career-best on her Senior Day to win the 1-meter board with a score of 248.40 that ranks seventh in team history. Madeline Wiese won on 3-meter with a 240.45. Kiree Lowe finished second on 1-meter (246.38).
There were several dominant displays of depth for CBU, as well. The Lancers swept second through fourth in the 200 breaststroke and 100 butterfly.
Faith Brazil and Emma Lindquist both hit new season-best and improved their No. 2 and 3 times in CBU’s all-time top-10 in the 200 breast. Brazil took second in 2:16.38 and Lindquist finished third in 2:19.30, while Alexa Melara came in fourth (2:20.08).
Rhodes led the way in the 100 fly, while Nicole Cienega was .03 of a second behind to take third in 56.18. Vianka Hoyer logged the No. 7 time in CBU’s top-10 history, as she took fourth in 56.57.
Cienega also improved on her top-10 time in the 200 fly, as she finished runner-up in 2:01.64.
Emily Longfellow (58.58) and Lauren McKenna (58.91) came in second and third in the 100 back, while Hannah Houlton (23.88) and Rita Smirnova (24.15) touched in second and fourth in the 50 free, respectively. Smirnov also took fourth in the 100 free (51.92).
Melara and Lindquist both clocked new personal best and top-10 times in the 100 breast, as they took third and fourth in 1:04.26 (fourth) and 1:04.60 (sixth).
Martha Aguilar added a new top-10 time for CBU in the 1000 free, as she took fourth in 10:16.34 and also finished third in the 400 individual medley (4:29.78). Mackenzie Degn also took second in the 200 free (1:50.25) and third in the 200 back (2:06.59) for CBU.
