Two ACC squads, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech, have picked up verbal commitments for the class of 2014. Georgia Tech’s women’s team got a pledge from Megan Young, and the Virginia Tech men have added Brandon Tutty to their class.
For the Yellow Jackets, Young is a very good backstroker, with best times of 55.0 and 2:00.8 in the 100 and 200 yard races. That 100 yard time is faster than anybody has gone at Georgia Tech in the last two seasons.
Tutty, from the Lakeland Hills YMCA is a breaststroker who comes out of high school with bests of 56.0 and 2:04.24 in the 100 and 200 yard breaststrokes. He’s also solid in long course, with a 100 meter best of 1:05.25.
The ACC has not been all that strong in the breaststroke races, as a conference, the last few years, which gives Tutty a chance to score at the conference championship meet as a freshman. Last year, what the Hokies lacked in a top-tier breaststroker, they made up for in depth: they return three guys who were better than 55 seconds in the 100 yard race.
