The Spanish Swimming Federation will hold its annual Short Course National Championships from Friday, December 12th until Sunday, December 14th in what it’s calling an “epilogue” to the World Championships last week where Mireia Belmonte won four golds and set two World Records.
Belmonte is entered in 6 events at the meet: the 200 fly, the 200 IM, the 1500 free, the 800 free, the 400 free, and the 400 IM. That 1500 free is the only one that she didn’t race at the Short Course World Championships in Doha last weekend. The Spanish star will also be looking for some redemption in the 200 IM, where at Worlds she inexplicably missed the final and a shot at another medal.
This meet will close out the year for Spanish Swimming, but early in January, they will send a team of elites to train at the Sierra Nevada altitude camp in Granada.
The camp will be led by technical director Fred Vernoux and include 6 swimmers:
- Mireia Belmonte (UCAM Fuensanta),
- JimenaPérez Blanco (CN Gredos San Diego),
- María Vilas (CN Riveira),
- Antonio Arroyo (CN At. Barceloneta),
- Francisco M. Bleda (CN Palma)
- Pol Gil (CN Vallirana),
