Sarah Brown to join University of Mary Washington with conference leading times

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Sarah Brown, a Virginian native, will stay in state to attend and compete for the University of Mary Washington. Brown’s sister, Rachael, currently swims for James Madison University — another institute located in Virginia. Sarah Brown recently graduated from Monacan High School, and swims for Quest Swimming.

I am extremely excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at The University Of Mary Washington. I want to thank my family ,coaches and teammates who have gotten me to where I am today.

At this year’s Virginia Class 4 State Championships in March, Brown PB’d in both the 100 free (54.19) and 200 free (1:55.17) to take 10th and 7th, respectively. With those swims, Brown helped Monacan High School win the state championship for the 3rd consecutive year.

Just a week later, Brown continued her momentum while competing at the Central District 13 & Over Championships, swimming 5 events, and establishing PBs in all of them. Brown won the 400 IM (4:42.95), took 3rd in the 100 back (1:00.46), placed 7th in the 200 back (2:12.80), finished 12th in the 100 breast (1:12.32), and was 11th in the 200 breast (2:36.22).

Best times – SCY

  • 50 free – 25.36
  • 100 free – 54.19
  • 200 free – 1:55.17
  • 500 free – 5:12.66
  • 200 fly – 2:10.56
  • 400 IM – 4:42.95

The University of Mary Washington is a DIII School, and newly members of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). At the 2024 NJAC Championships, UMW were conference champions — winning the meet by 172 points over 2nd place Salisbury. This was UMW’s first year as a member of the NJAC, and prior to their move, the UMW were the 2022 and 2023 Metropolitan Swimming Conference champions.

Brown will look to continue UMW’s dominance, as her 100 free, 500 free, 200 fly, and 400 IM are all faster than what it took to A-final at the 2024 NJAC Championships. Further, Brown’s 200 free PB would have beat the conference winning time of 1:56.47, making Brown an immediate title and 3x A-finalist threat when she arrives on campus.

In addition to Brown, the University of Mary Washington will welcome a total of 7 Virginian natives in Ava Rice, Spera Moy-Jacobs, Maddie Kryszon, Nora McMullen, Bryar Laine, and Soleil Clifford to their incoming freshman class. Abi Robinson, who hails from North Carolina, is also a part of UMW’s class of 2028.
