The Brazilian Confederation of Aquatic Sports (CBDA) has announced that the International Yacht Club in Santos, home to the club Regatas, will host the 2016 Jose Finkel Trophy from September 12th-17th, 2016.
That meet is Brazil’s Short Course National Championship meet and will be the first post-Olympic meet for Brazil’s best, which will give some clues as to whom is continuing their career into the next Olympic cycle and who is retiring.
It’s also a selection meet for the 2016 World Short Course Championships that will be held in December in Windsor, Canada.
The timing of the meet is about 2-3 weeks later than it’s typical late August starting period.
The Brazilians take the short course World Championships very seriously – in 2014, the last edition of the meet, Brazil led the medals table with 7 golds.
Santos is located in the state of São Paulo, about 50 miles from the São Paulo metropolis – the most populous city in Brazil (and the Southern Hemisphere).
The meet overlaps with the Paralympic Games in Rio.
