FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women’s swimming and diving team has hired Megan Balbo as an assistant coach.
Balbo swam distance freestyle for Denison University where she contributed to the team’s national recognition. Balbo graduated from Denison University in 2022 with a degree in Health and Exercise Sports Studies and a Minor in Psychology.
“We are excited to bring Megan on board to our team,” said head coach John Spadafina. “With her swimming knowledge of the region and her national level collegiate background swimming, she will be a great fit for our program.”
Balbo earned Division III NCAA All-American recognition in the 500-yard freestyle in 2020. She also was a member of Denison’s NCAC Conference Championship team the same year.
In 2020 and 2021, Balbo served as a journalism intern for the Swimming World Magazine. More recently, Balbo has been on the coaching staff for Bulldog Swimming in New Haven, CT, and working for Prolete Physical Therapy as a physical therapy aid and office manager assistant.
“It is an honor to be joining the Sacred Heart University Women’s Swimming and Diving team as an assistant coach for the 2023-2024 season,” Balbo stated. “I am grateful that I will have the opportunity to use the lessons I learned throughout my own swimming career to help foster an environment of growth and success. Thank you to John, Adam, and the rest of the SHU team for allowing me to join your family.”
