Rutgers Women Close Out Weekend With 145-114 Victory Over Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Rutgers swimming earned 23 top three finishes including individual event victories in the 500 and 100 free, 100 and 200 breast and 100 and 200 fly along with the top time in the 400 medley relay in a win Saturday morning at Lynn University.

The Scarlet Knights topped the Fighting Knights 145.00-114.00.

FROM THE POOL DECK
  • Sophomores Blanka Berecz and Sofia Bartoloni earned three wins on the morning. Both were members of the winning 400 medley relay squad with Berecz hitting the wall in first in the 500 free and 200 fly and Bartoloni sweeping breaststroke events.
  • Also bringing home first place finishes were Grace Weaver in the 1000 free and Ellie Schinsky in the 100 fly.
SPRINTS
  • Sofia Bartoloni dominated the breast events clocking in first in both the 100 breast (1:03.89) and 200 breast (1:03.89). Molly Urkiel was the runner-up in the 100 breast (1:05.03) while first year Holland Spangler took second in the 200 breast (2:23.41).
  • Blanka Berecz added another title taking home the top finish in the 200 fly (2:03.20) while Ellie Schinsky was the top finisher in the 100 fly (56.71). Transfer Cameron Kuriger touched the wall in third in both events in 57.71 and 2:08.30 respectively.
  • Natalie Schick was the runner-up in both the 100 back (58.11) and 200 back (2:07.65) with third-place finishes by Ellie Schinsky in the 100 back (58.47) and Grace Hagemaster in the 200 back (2:11.00)
  • Martyna Piesko gave the Scarlet Knights a runner-up finish in the 50 free (23.99) as she was edged out of first by .02 seconds.
  • RU had a pair of second place performances in the 100 and 200 free. Brooke Thompson was second (53.32) followed by Ellie Schinsky in third (53.86) in the 100 free. Ella Hall claimed the second place spot in the 200 free (1:56.24).
DISTANCE
  • Rutgers was tops in the distance events as the Scarlet Knights took the top two positions in the 500 free and went 1-2-3 in the 1000 free.
  • Berecz earned the win in the 500 free (5:02.89) with newcomer Ella Arbeiter in second (5:10.35).
  • Grace Weaver was in front in the 1000 free with a commanding lead (10:34.29) followed by newcomer Isabela Valle (10:49.88) and Orian Gablan (10:57.61).

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn women’s swimming posted seven individual wins during its 145-114 loss to Division I Rutgers on Saturday. Laura Dekoninck paced the Fighting Knights with a pair of wins in the 50 and 100 freestyle.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

– The 400 medley relay of Dekoninck, Luna MertinsMalaika Schneider and Luz Tapia Sahagun opened the meet with second place in 3:52.71
– Mertins posted a win in the 100 backstroke (57.08) and finished second in the 100 butterfly (56.79)
– Tapia Sahagun won the 200 freestyle (1:55.98) and finished third in the 500 freestyle (5:11.36)
– Dekoninck posted wins in the 50 freestyle (23.97) and 100 freestyle (53.01) while finishing third in the 200 freestyle (1:57.12)
– Lexi Lundell added to the mix, finishing third in the 50 freestyle (24.67) and securing first in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.10)
– Schneider took third in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.26)
– Mariele De Santis placed second in the 200 butterfly (2:05.73) while posting a win in the 200 backstroke (2:04.67)
– Finishing off the individual events strong by going 1-2-3 in the 400 IM were De Santis (4:29.98), Ally Webster (4:32.99) and Julia Delaney (4:57.17)
– Ending off the meet with a win in the 200 freestyle relay were Mertins, Lundell, Schneider and Tapia Sahagun with a time of 1:37.77

UP NEXT:
– The Fighting Knights will travel to Fort Lauderdale in a double duel against Florida International and Nova Southeastern from Nov. 8-9
