Rudd Recognized As One Of Plymouth’s Best

Jon Rudd‘s accomplishments as the Head Coach of Plymouth Leander over the last year are numerous and for those he has been celebrated as one of Plymouth’s best. The Plymouth Herald recognized four local coaches who lead their respective teams success during the season and Rudd was on top of that list.

Even after watching his star pupil Lithuanian Ruta Meilutyte beat American Rebecca Soni out for the gold in the women’s 100 breaststroke at the London Olympics Rudd told the Herald that 2013 may have been more exciting for him and his team, “In a way, it’s been a more exciting year than 2012. In that year, obviously, Ruta won her gold,” said Rudd.

“But in 2013, there’s been a bigger breadth of achievements in competitions like the European short course championships and the world junior championships.”

“There’s been three world records broken and Ben (Proud) broke Mark Foster’s record.”

The paper also recognized diving coach Andy Banks, gymnastic coach Jemma Maskell and basketball coach Matt Hatchell.
