10-year old Ronald Dalmacio of Rose Bowl Aquatics Swim Team broke the National Age Group Record in the boys’ 10-and-under 100 yard IM on Sunday at 2015 Far Westerns Championships in Morgan Hill, California. His 1:01.21 was exactly 10/100 faster than the previous mark, set by Michael Andrew in 2010.
Dalmacio lowered his own NAG record in the 100 back on Saturday, becoming the first 10-year-old in history to go under 59 seconds.http://swimswam.com/ronald-dalmacio-of-rose-bowl-breaks-59-in-100-back-lowers-own-10u-nag-record-at-far-westerns/
Without pads at each end of the pool we can only compare 50s. But taking a look at the two halves of the race for both Andrew and Dalmacio, we can surmise the backstroke made the difference in Dalmacio’s NAG. He and Andrew split the breast/free half nearly identically; it’s the front half where Dalmacio gets the edge.
Comparative splits: | |
Michael Andrew, 2010 | 27.96/33.35 = 1:01.31 |
Ronald Dalmacio, April 2015 | 27.87/33.34 = 1:01.21 |

The kid looks like I did at the end of my freshman year of HS and he’s 10?! Good grief some kids develop much sooner than others.
Nice work though, Ronald. Not taking anything away from you.
Wow! Not easy to break a Michael Andrew’s NAG record.
Congrats.
