On day 65 of the torch relay the torch travelled through five cities in the Southern region of Rio Grande do Sul.

It first went through São Sepé, a municipality with about 25,000 inhabitants. It then hit Caçapava do Sul and Canguçu, both located south of São Sepé. Caçapava do Sul has a population of about 35,000, while Canguçu has about 54,000.

It then travelled through Rio Grande and Pelotas, both located close to the southern most point of the state. Rio Grande was formerly the capital of the state and has a population of nearly 200,000. Pelotas is the third most populous municipality in Rio Grande do Sul with about 346,000 inhabitants.
