STOCKTON, Calif. – Finishing off its home schedule strong, the Pacific swim team claimed both victories over Simon Fraser, the men taking the meet 137-125 and the women 146-116.
The meet opened with the 200 medley relay, with the Tiger women (3-4) claiming the 1-3 finish, which set the tone for the remainder of the meet. The Pacific A relay (Diana Chan, Paige Sondgeroth, Caitlin Tan and Alexia Ferguson) clocked a 1:43.75, its second fastest time this season.
Junior Jordyn Gonzales took second in the 1000 free, shaving 15.53 seconds off her fastest time seen this year for a new season best. Junior Alexia Ferguson continues a hot streak of racing after taking first in the 200 free. The junior raced to the new fastest time by a Tiger woman this season with a 1:51.53 in the event, shaving .26 seconds off her previous top time.
Sophomore Diana Chan claimed first with a 56.82 in the 100 back, while junior Paige Sondgeroth raced to a first place finish with her second fastest time this year in the 100 breast (1:03.49).
Senior Caitlin Tan took first in the 200 fly with a 2:02.89, dropping 2.05 seconds in the race to earn the new fastest time this season. She returned later to best her top time in the 100 fly, clocking a 55.07 to take first in the meet and earn a new season best.
The women rounded out the day with the 400 free relay. Pacific’s A relay (Alexia Ferguson, Noemi Melendez, Caitlin Tan and Jadyn Phillips) took second in the meet’s final race, finishing with a 3:29.58.
Out of the men’s side (3-3), the Tigers remained in a back and forth battle with the Red Leafs, with the meet being decided by the final two events.
Pacific’s men started out on the right foot, taking the 1-2 finish in the opening 200 medley relay. The Pacific A relay (Alex Kurotori, Aidan Vollmar, Mitchell Hopper and Dylan Parente) finished with a 1:30.36
Senior Dylan Parente took first in the 200 free with a 1:39.88, his second fastest time this season and a new top-five time for the Tiger men this year. Junior Leland Baltazar claimed another first place finish for the Tigers, clocking a 49.40 in the 100 back, his second best time this season.
Senior Aidan Scott took first in the 200 fly with a 1:51.53, his second best time this year. Parente returned in the 50 free to take first with a 20.31 for a new season best. The time is also the fastest swim by a Tiger this season in the event.
Senior Aidan Vollmar took first in the 100 fly with a 48.89, his second best time this year. Heading into the 200 IM, the men were down by one. Junior Mitchell Hopper (1:51.12) and Scott (1:51.66) finished with the 1-2 punch to put the Tigers up seven heading into the final race of the afternoon.
In the 400 free relay for the win the Pacific A relay (Dylan Parente, Alex Kurotori, Leland Baltazar and Aidan Vollmar) finished first with a 3:02.53.
“I couldn’t have thought of a better way to end than with a double win at our home pool,” head coach Katelyne Herrington shared after the victory, “For the seniors, that is such a special memory.”
Pacific returns to action with the women taking on UC Davis on Saturday, Jan. 27 at noon. The men return on Friday, Feb. 2 for the UCSB Invite.
