Michaela Nolte Named ODAC Swimmer of the Week

Michaela Nolte, a junior from Hillsborough, N.C., twice set the same ODAC record and posted three swims that eclipsed the NCAA B-cut in leading Emory & Henry to a team win at the Transylvania Invitational. Nolte won twice and placed second in three individual races, and then contributed to four relay wins.  She won the 50-yard freestyle in 0:24.29, the second-fastest time in the ODAC this season.  She then twice set the ODAC record and eclipsed the NCAA B-cut in the 100-yard breaststroke with preliminary and finals times of 1:05.09 and 1:04.99, placing second overall.  Her third B-cut came in winning the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:22.96, the top time in the ODAC.  Nolte swam a 0:24.22 leadoff leg in the 200-yard free relay, which marks the fastest 50-yard free time of the season.  That helped E&H to a time of 1:36.70 in the relay.  The Wasps also won the 400-yard free (3:34.08), 200-yard medley (1:47.62) and 400-yard medley (3:57.24) relays.

Women’s Swimming Weekly Honor Roll

Emily Townsend, Bridgewater (Sr.)
Townsend set a new school record in the 100-fly with a sixth place time of 1:00.78 at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.  She finished 13th in the 200-breastroke (2:38.14) and 18th in the 100-breaststroke (1:14.44).  She also competed in four relays — 200-medley (12; 1:59.13), 400-medley (14th; 4:23.77), 800-free (15th; 8:43.18) and 400-free (20th; 4:08.05).

Kata Kylliainen, Randolph-Macon (Fr.)
Kylliainen set a new R-MC record with a 17:47.23 to finish second in the 1,650-free at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.  She was fourth in the 500-free (5:13.61) and fifth in the 200-free (1:57.77), establishing R-MC season-best times in the process.  She participated in four relays — 200-free (5th; 1:41.91), 200-medley (7th; 1:54.01), 800-free (8th; 8:06.92) and 400-free (8th; 3:44.91).

Elle Chancey, Washington and Lee (Fr.)
Chancey set a new W&L record in the 100-free with her leadoff leg i nthe 400-free relay with a time of 0:52.66, which sits as the best ODAC time this season.  W&L won that relay at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in 3:35.94.  She also helped W&L win the 400-medley (3:58.14) and 200-medley (1:49.10) relays and place second in the 200-free (1:39.81) relay.  Individual, Chancey won the 100-free (0:52.95) and 200-free (1:54.12) and placed second in the 50-free (0:24.85).

Nick Burton, a freshman from Chesapeake, Va., picks up his second weekly award of the season as winning a pair of events and finishing as the runner-up in a third at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.  Burton chimed in second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:44.40, placing him second on the ODAC’s top-times list.  He claimed the conference’s top spot in his remaining two events, registering times of 4:40.16 and 16:25.98 to win the 500-yard and 1,650-yard freestyles, respectively.  Burton also competed in a trio of relays.  He contributed to a first place finish in the 800-yard free relay (7:06.82), fifth in the 400-yard free relay (3:13.03) and 17th in the 200-yard medley relay (1:47.60).

Noah Schammel, Washington and Lee (So.)
Schammel posted a pair of ODAC top times as he won the 100-yard (0:51.50) and 200-yard (1:54.33) butterfly events at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.  He also placed eighth in the 200-yard IM (2:01.08).  He contributed to a win in the 200-yard medley relay (1:36.13) and a third-place showing in the 400-yard medley relay (3:36.22).
