Joe Turk of the Phoenix Swimming Club in Haverhill, MA. has verbally committed to the Fighting Irish. The high school senior was a five-time finalist at the 2015 Sectionals in Plantation, FL. placing 4th in the 200 LCM back (2:08.52), 5th in the 200 LCM fly (2:07.98), 100 LCM back (59.29) and 400 LCM IM (4:34.96) as well as 7th in the 200 LCM IM (2:10.41). He has qualified for the SCY Winter Championships in the 200-yard IM, 400-yard IM and 200-yard fly.

Turk’s best times are:

  • 200-yard IM: 1:50.50
  • 400-yard IM: 3:54.57
  • 200-yard fly: 1:50.74
  • 100-yard back: 49.97
  • 200-yard back: 1:47.16

Since his freshman year of high school, Turk has improved all of his times in his best events. He has dropped more than 4 seconds in the 100-yard back, 7 seconds in the 200-yard back, 9 seconds in the 200-yard IM, 13 seconds in the 400-yard IM and 7 seconds in the 200-yard fly. All of that has made him from a very good sprint backstroker into a very well-rounded pickup for the Fighting Irish.

Turk will join new teammates, butterfly/backstroker Jack Montesi, breaststroker Rex Riley and all-round swimmer Aaron Schultz in the Fighting Irish class of 2020.
