GREELEY, Colo. – In the home opener, Northern Colorado defeated Idaho 199-101 at Butler-Hancock pool Saturday.

“Our girls stepped up and raced tough today,” UNC head coachLisa Ebeling said. “It is always good to defend our home pool.”

The Bears won 13 of the 16 events, claiming at least two podium spots in 10 races and the 1-meter springboard diving competition. They swept the top three spots in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard butterfly.

“I am proud of our divers, contributing big points and big scores,” Ebeling said. “It is really exciting for Madison [Berg] to set her personal best, especially this early in the season.”

UNC improved to 2-0 in duals and registered its third victory of the campaign.

Martina Yuki Trionfetti and Maria Erokhina won five races combined, with Erokina claiming three individual titles. Trionfetti registered a pair of victories and a runner-up spot in a solo competition.

The duo teamed with Payten Irwin and Ali Jackson in the 400-yard Medley Relay to win the opening race in a time of 3:52.16.

Trionfetti closed dual by swimming the opening leg of the 200-yard freestyle, joining Saana Liikonen, Lily Mayer, and Ali Jackson to win in a time of 1:36.31.

Irwin collected two individual titles, totaling four in all.

The Bears return to action against Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming, Saturday, Nov. 4. They close the home slate against Air Force Saturday, Jan. 12.

GREELEY, Colo. – Catherine HydeEmily Mack and Ginger Kiefer each recorded individual victories but it was not enough as the Idaho swimming and diving team suffered a 199-101 dual loss on the road at Northern Colorado on Saturday afternoon.

Hyde notched Idaho’s first win in the 100 backstroke before Mack added a victory in the 3-meter dive. Kiefer continued her success in the 200 backstroke, rounding out a trio of first-place finishers.

Kiefer also recorded second-place finishes in the 1000 freestyle and 200 IM, rounding out her three top-two finishes on the day.

Following Hyde with a runner-up finish in the 100 back was teammate Katy Foley. She tallied two top-three performances for Idaho.

Junior Ella Haskins put up a second-place swim in the 50 freestyle to add points for the Vandals. In the 100 freestyle, freshman Sydney Heasman pitched in a second-place effort.

Idaho drops to 4-3 overall and 1-3 in WAC play, while Northern Colorado moved to 2-0 with its first conference win.

UP NEXT
The Vandals will continue on the road with a trip to the Puget Sound to compete against Seattle U for a conference matchup on Saturday, November 11.
