The NM State swimming & diving team was bested by Northern Arizona Saturday afternoon, 168-127, in Aquatic and Tennis Complex.
The Aggies took first in four events on Saturday with Alix Knagg winning in the 200 yard backstroke. Knagg then again came out and swam a meet-best 2:13.38. Teammates Barbora Krizanova, Lauren Wood and Logan Morris swept the top-four spots.
In the 400 yard free relay, NM State’s team of Picabo Bender, Sina Wegel, Makena Southerland and Johanna Petersson clocked in with a first-place time of 3:36.20 followed by its three other teams. Wood was also the top finisher in the 200 yard breast stroke, checking in with a mark of 2:21.59.
In the 200 yard medley relay, the Aggie team of Knagg, Makena Sutherland, Wood and Lauryn Dean raced with a time of 1:49.06 and finished in third. Two other NM State relay teams finished right behind them, but NAU’s crew finished with a 1-2 punch.
In the 1,000 yard free, Natalie French clocked in with an 11:01.17 mark followed by Lilly Araujo but NAU again had a swimmer take first. Bender (1:55.75) finished just ahead of Petersson (1:58.22) as NM State finished in second and third. Knagg also came in second in the 100 yard backstroke while Wood claimed in second in the 100 breaststroke with a mark of 1:05.59.
NM State will now have a short break before it returns to action on Friday, Jan. 6, when it travels to Tucson, Ariz., for a pair of dual meets against Arizona and Oregon State at noon.
