The International Swim Coaches Association (ISCA) hosted the annual East Coast Elite Showcase earlier this month in St. Petersburg, Florida. North Baltimore Aquatic Club dominated the team scores, tallying a combined total of 1146 points.

11-year-old Penelope Lopez-Casula and 9-year-old Alexey Zaitev recorded ten individual victories each in their respective age groups. Casula set three personal best times en route to her wins, highlighted by a three-second drop in the 500 free. Casula swam a 5:06.02, which ranks 1st this season for 11-year-old girls, and 4th in the 11-12 age group. She also dropped nearly two seconds in the 100 fly (1:00.69) and over two seconds in the 100 IM (1:02.09).
Zaitev, who swims with BeFirst Swim Team, hit eight personal best times. Even as a 9-year-old, Zaitev managed to crack the top-20 in the country this season for the boy’s 9-10 age group in two events. He swam a 1:06.05 in the 100 backstroke to post the 17th-fastest time this year in the event, as well as a 2:24.74 in the 200 IM to record the 20th best this season.
Shannon Conway of North Baltimore Aquatic Club had an outstanding showing with seven personal bests and seven wins. Conway, 14, put up the 5th-fastest 1650 this season among 13-14 girls with a 16:44.03. On the way to winning the 1650, she also set a personal best time of 10:07.51 at the 1000 mark to become the 8th-fastest performer in the age group this year. Another top swim of Conway’s was the 400 IM, where she dropped over a second to record a 4:21.41, good for 11th this year.
Conway’s teammate Daniel Branon also moved up the rankings, but for 13-14 boys. Branon threw down a 1:49.00 in the 200 fly, moving him to 2nd this season and 12th all-time. He came into the meet with a best time of 1:49.76, but entered this short season at 1:53.60. Branon also notched best times in the 200 breast (2:07.74), 1650 (15:37.30), and 50 free (22.16). His performance in the 1650 moves him to 4th this year and 39th all-time.
Sawyer Hansen of Saint Petersburg Aquatics and Jude Burkhart of North Baltimore dominated the 11-year-old boys category. Hansen collected five wins with seven personal best times, highlighted by his performance in the 1000 freestyle. He posted a best time of 10:18.59 to climb to 4th this season among 11-12 boys. He also posted best times in the 500 free (5:07.36) and 100 free (54.30), winning both. Burkhart collected seven victories of his own, including the 200 back (2:08.17), 200 fly (2:10.66), and 400 IM (4:35.13). He too had a fantastic race in the 1000, where he finished 2nd in 10:31.93 to move to 11th this season for the age group.
