(NLI Photos) Garrett Chin of Swim Pasadena Signs NLI With BU

Garrett Chin has signed his National Letter of Intent with Boston University beginning in fall 2014. Chin is from La Canada, California. He swims at La Canada High School and for Terry Stoddard at Swim Pasadena. According to Stoddard:

“Garrett is a versatile and tenacious competitor. He will be a great addition to Coach Smyth’s arsenal during both dual meets and at the Patriot League Championships. Garrett is where he is in his swimming because of his work ethic and ability to focus when it matters. I have always seen Garrett perform up to expectations at peak meets. We will miss him here at Swim Pasadena, but what we do is get these student-athletes ready for the next level and we are proud that he will be a Terrier at BU!”

Chin is a true mid-distance swimmer, excelling at the 200/400 IM, 200 fly and 200 back. His best times are 1:52.28/4:01.62 for the IMs and 1:51.78/1:56.32 for the fly and back, respectively. He has had greater success, however, in long course. There his times are 2:09.32/4:33.94 (IMs), 2:05.80 (fly), and 2:08.57 (back).

Boston University relocated from America East to the Patriot League with the 2013-14 season. Chin’s times are hovering right up among the 2013 Patriot League Championship’s top 8 in each of his best events, so he should be a great asset to the Terriers.

Chin told SwimSwam:

“I was really impressed with everything that Boston University has to offer. It has great facilities and it is a great school academically and athletically. The team is also very close and extremely focused on getting to the next level. Overall I feel like Boston University is the place where I can become the best student and athlete that I can be. I can’t wait for the next four years of my life. Let’s Go Terriers!”
