BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Wildcats won 10 of the 16 events as the University of New Hampshire swimming and diving team defeated America East opponent Vermont, 170-130, in the season opener on Saturday at Forbush Natatorium. The Wildcats start the season 1-0 (1-0 America East), while the Catamounts fall to 1-1 (0-1 America East).
“Today was a great meet with Vermont and a solid start to the season,” said head coach Josh Willman. “Our 200-medley relay was just shy of the Forbush Pool record. The divers were solid and our athletes really stepped up against a deep Vermont team.”

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Wildcats were led by sophomore Ella Guilfoil (Fairport, N.Y.) who had a spectacular season-opening meet as a triple winner taking the 100 back (57.72), 200 back (2:04.91) and 200 IM (2:08.35).
- Sophomore Audrey Mahoney (Downers Grove, Ill.) and sophomore Sophia Routzahn (Frederick, Md.) also had outstanding performances each winning two events. Mahoney placed first in the 50 free (24.26) and 100 free (52.97), while Routzahn captured the 100 breast (1:06.67) and 200 breast (2:22.86).
- Senior Hannah Devine (Hamilton, N.J.) won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:32.31.
- Junior Emma Clarke (Avon, N.Y.) placed second in the one meter with a NCAA zone cut and career best score of 266.55, while freshman Grace Blume (Dedham, Mass.) placed second in the three meter with a score of 256.20.
- The 200 medley relay team of Guilfoil, Routzahn, junior captain Chiara Maria Pradissitto (Milan, Italy) and Mahoney started off the meet by placing first with a stellar time of 1:45.65.
- The 200 free relay team of Mahoney, senior captain Abby McKinney (Westfield, N.J.), freshman Izzie Campion (Auckland, New Zealand) and junior Annie Jencova (Waikanae, New Zealand) placed first with a winning time of 1:38.04.

BURLINGTON, Vt. – First year Tannah Proudfoot set the UVM varsity record in the one-meter and three-meter dive Saturday afternoon against New Hampshire. Vermont won six events but fell 170-130 at Forbush Natatorium in their Spread Respect meet. Saturday was also the Catamounts Youth Day presented by Healthy Living.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackie House claimed Vermont’s first win of the day in the 200 freestyle. She won the event for the third time in a row this season with a time of 1:54.44. She was .93 seconds ahead of UNH’s Abby McKinney.
- Hally Laney earned two first place finishes for the Catamounts in the 200 and 100 fly. Laney picked up her second 200 fly win of the season with a time of 2:06.65. She was 1.26 seconds ahead of UNH’s Megumi Komoto. In the 100 fly her time of 57.38 was .45 seconds ahead of McKinney of the Wildcats.
- House earned her second win of the day in a 1-2 finish with her teammate Ella Church in the 500 free. House finished in a time of 5:08.29 and Church touched .06 seconds behind her. It was House’s second win of the season in the 500 free.
- Proudfoot set the packed crowd into a frenzy with her one-meter diving early in the meet. She posted 280.95 points, surpassing the varsity mark of 272.02 held by Emily Hall since 2002. Her six-dive total is also a NCAA Zones qualifying mark.
- Remarkably in the three-meter she duplicated her feat. She posted another NCAA Zones qualifying mark of 280.62 setting yet another varsity record. Renee Gliddon’s mark of 275.18 had stood since 2008.
WHO’S NEXT
Following today’s meet, the Catamounts will return to action for a second consecutive America East battle, traveling to face Maine. The Catamounts and Black Bears will faceoff on Saturday, November 4 at 11 a.m. from the Stanley M. Wallace Pool.
Vermont will compete at home again on Saturday, December 2 as they host UMass at 12 p.m. It will be the Catamounts Annual Rally Around Mental Health Meet presented by Redstone.
