Nevada earns both Mountain West weekly awards

The following is a press release courtesy of the Mountain West Conference:

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Nevada junior Yawen Li has been named Mountain West Swimmer of the Week, while her teammate Krysta Palmer has earned MW Women’s Diver of the Week honors for competition from November 3-9, 2014. It is the second Mountain West weekly accolade for Palmer this season. It is the first honor of Li’s career.

 

WOMEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK

YAWEN LI, NEVADA

Junior, Wuhan, China

  • Led the Wolf Pack to a dual-meet victory at UC Davis (171.5-126.5) on November 8.
  • Won three individual events and was a member of a winning relay.
  • Won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:08.10, currently the second-fastest in the Conference this season.
  • Posted a league third-best time of 2:16.76 to win the 200-yard breaststroke, and the fourth-fastest mark in the league of 2:04.71 in the 200-yard individual medley.
  • Swam the anchor leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay with an event time of 3:26.53.

 

WOMEN’S DIVER OF THE WEEK

KRYSTA PALMER, NEVADA

Junior, Carson City, Nev. / Western Nevada College

  • Contributed to the Wolf Pack win with victories in both springboard events.
  • Won the 1-meter dive with a score of 350.25 and the 3-meter event with a score of 375.90, setting career-bests on both boards.
  • Both scores are NCAA-qualifying marks and currently rank first in the Conference. The scores set pool records at the Schaal Aquatics Center on the campus of UC Davis.
