NC State On A Roll; Gets Verbal from Virginia Sprinter Anna Shumate

Anna Shumate, a senior at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, Virginia, has verbally committed to swim for North Carolina State University in 2017-18. “So extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at NC State! #GOPACK!!”

Shumate won the 100 breast (1:05.15) and finished third in the 50 free (24.19) at the 2016 Washington Metropolitan Prep School League (WMPSSDL) Championships. She went 28.85 on the 50 breast on Bishop Ireton’s medley relay and split 24.07 on the 200 free relay, as well. Shumate swims year-round for Arlington Aquatic Club, with whom she has been a finalist at NCSA Spring and Summer Championships.

Shumate will hope to take over for current senior Kayla Brumbaum, who led the Wolfpack’s scoring efforts in the breaststroke events at 2016 ACC Championships with at fourth in both the 100 breast and the 200 breast.

Her best SCY times:

  • 50 breast – 28.42
  • 100 breast – 1:02.62
  • 200 breast – 2:20.12
  • 50 free – 23.93
  • 100 free – 52.20

She will join the Wolfpack with fellow class of 2021 commits Danika Huizinga, Jacquee Clabeaux, Julia Poole, Kate Moore, Maddie Morello, Miranda Donley, Olivia Calegan, and Olivia Fisher.
