FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Nov. 2, 2024) – The Northern Arizona women’s swimming and diving team took on the Idaho Vandals today in the Wall Aquatic Center, ending with a victory of 167-133.

“We’re pleased with the result for sure,” head swimming coach Andy Johns said. “Our drivers were solid. Across the board, we had some great swims and great efforts, and Idaho came in here and gave us a good meet. We’re happy to get a win against a good conference opponent, but already, we have work to do to get better next week and just keep getting better throughout the season.”

Trelise Dance took two titles from the meet. Firstly, in the 100-yard breaststroke, with a time of 1:03.32. Secondly, the 200-yard breaststroke, recording a 2:20.39 time.

Casey Craffey took the title in the 1,000-yard freestyle, recording a time of 10:14.76. She would also place second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:05.07.

The 200-yard freestyle title was claimed by Helena Robla who posted a time of 1:51.52.

Kylie Ney recorded the fastest time in the 500-yard freestyle, with a 5:01.05. 

Elsa Musselman was the fastest in the 100-yard butterfly, with a time of 54.12 and Isahbel Krasht took the 200-yard butterfly title with a time of 2:04.71.

Mackenna Stocker won both of the diving events (one meter and three meters), scoring 304.13 and 323.70, respectively.

Of the two team relays, Idaho would come out on top with a 1:42.64 in the 200-yard medley relay, and 1:33.78 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. 

Idaho’s Ginger Keifer took three event titles, including the 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard IM. Ella Haskins would take first in the 50 and 100-yard freestyles for the Vandals. 

The Lumberjacks will next meet New Mexico State on Nov. 9 at 10:00 a.m. Mountain Standard time.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Idaho swimming and diving team battled late but couldn’t contain its strong start as the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks posted a 167-133 victory over the Vandals on Saturday afternoon at the Walls Aquatic Center.

Second-year standout Ginger Kiefer continued to show why she is one of the best swimmers in the conference, helping lead the Vandals to four victories with three individual wins, one top finish in the 200 medley relay (1:42.64) and a pool record in the 200 IM.

Despite the loss, the Vandals recorded seven wins and three runner-up finishes against the defending WAC Champions. Ella Haskins, Kiefer, the 200 free relay team and the 200 medley team each recorded a victory.

The Vandals gained momentum right from the jump, winning right out of the gate in the 200 medley as Kiefer, Rylie MoxhamGrace Ruble and Haskins placed first in 1:42.64.

Two events later Kiefer added nine more points to the Vandal score with a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke (54.55).

Haskins went back-to-back in the 50 and 100 freestyle to keep Idaho in contention. She finished first with a time of 23.28 in the 50 free before following it up with another top finish in the 100 (51.22) to add a total of 18 points.

Kiefer made it two straight Vandal victories after a top finish in the 200 backstroke. She touched the wall at 2:00.10 to finish just .03 seconds off the pool record (2:00.07).

Four races later, Kiefer added her fourth victory of the day with a pool record 2:03.34 in the 200 IM.

The 200 free relay team of Madelynn Butler, Rubel, Sydney Heasman and Haskins rounded out the meet with a pool record time of 1:33.78 to finish out competition on a strong suit.

The Vandals look to get back on track next week with a home meet against Seattle U on Saturday, November 9 at 11 a.m. PST.
