Mizzou gets verbal from Muscatine Iowa backstroker Alex Walton

The Missouri Tigers picked up a verbal commitment on the men’s side this week in Iowa backstroker/IMer Alex Walton.

Walton swims for the Iowa City Eels along with Muscatine High School, and is a five-time Iowa high school state champ. He also owns his own livestock – the cattle in the picture above are his.

Walton is probably most impressive in the backstrokes, but he’s versatile enough to put together a strong 200 IM:

Walton’s Top Times

  • 100 back: 49.75
  • 200 back: 1:46.10
  • 200 IM: 1:51.28

Also of note is that his IM seems to be on the rise – he went 2:09.39 in the long course IM at Junior Nationals this past summer, a lifetime-best and probably the better of the two IM times.

Missouri finished 5th at last year’s SEC Championships, right in the middle of the pack. They’ll hope their next recruiting class can help them rise in the new conference, which boasts one of swimming’s fastest championship meets.
