THE BASICS:

– The Lead: The MIT women’s swimming and diving team put together an excellent night in the pool as the Engineers earned a win over Division I Northeastern on Friday night in the Zesiger Center Pool.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
– Junior Kate Augustyn (Eau Claire, Wis.) led the way as she won all of her events. She just beat out Anna Verlander by a fraction of a second in the 100-back and took wins in the 200-back (2:02.90) and 200-IM (2:07.55). She was also a member of the Engineers 200-yard medley relay team which took first in the event.
– MIT claimed the top four spots in the 100-breast led by graduate student Edenna Chen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) who won the event with a time of 1:04.75.
– First-year Ella Roberson (Midland, Mich.) posted convincing wins in both the 50-free and 100-free in her first collegiate meet. First-year Katherine Yao (Frisco, Texas) also earned her first win in the 200-yard breast.
– Sophomore Sonia Seliger (New York, N.Y.) had an exciting finish to the 500-free that came down to the last leg of the race as she beat out Grace Miller to capture the win. Seliger finished with a time of 5:08.09 and Miller clocked in at 5:08.27.
– First-year Kailey Simons (Williston Park, N.Y.) finished third in the 100-breast (1:07.30) and fourth in the 100-fly (57.41). Senior Sydney Chun (Chandler, Ariz.) also put together a solid race in the 100-fly as she finished just behind Simmons with a time of 57.41.
– MIT wrapped up the swimming events with a thrilling 200-yard free relay as they narrowly defeated the team from Northeastern. Senior Melody Wen (Cary, N.C.) gave the Engineers the win with her anchor leg as she touched the wall to give MIT a time of 1:35.15 with the Huskies in second with a time of 1:35.18.
– First-year Fiora Beratahani (San Jose, Calif.) won the one-meter diving event with a score of 259.15. Sophomore Emma Scott (Belmont, Calif.) took second on the three-meter with a mark of 237.40.

– The Engineers return to the pool on Saturday, November 4th when the team will head to Springfield for a 12 p.m. meet

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Junior Hannah Seward earned two wins and sophomore diver Jodi Au won the 3M Dive, but Northeastern Huskies swim and dive team (0-1) fell 159-138 to the MIT Engineers (1-0) Friday night at Zesinger Center Pool.
- Seward championed both the 100 Fly and 200 Fly, swimming times of 56.16 and 2:09.32, respectively.
- Au’s score of 238.65 was enough to earn her a win in the 3M Dive, and she was followed by senior captain Lizzie Meschisen, who finished third with a score of 235.30.
- The Huskies had the top three finishers in the 100 Fly, as freshmen May Bradburn and Mary Nordmann finished second and third, respectively, with times of 56.63 and 56.82.
- Senior captain Grace Miller took home first place in the 200 Free with a time of 1:55.37 and finished second in the 500 Free, finishing just .16 seconds behind the winner and swimming to a time of 5:08.27.
- In the 1000 Free, freshman Bella Busconi swam a 10:38.56, besting the next-best swimmer by 24 seconds.
Next up, the Huskies return to Barletta Natatorium as they take on UConn Saturday, Nov. 4 at 1:30 p.m. That matchup will be streaming on FloSports.
