Wheaties breakfast cereal has announced that American World Record Holder Missy Franklin is the most recent athlete to join its Team Wheaties family. A year-long contract with the brand begins this month, which will land the superstar on the front of boxes in grocery stores, similar to that of Michael Phelps after London 2012.
Franklin’s undeniable personality and ability to connect with fans made the 20-year-old athlete an easy choice for the American-based brand. “We are thrilled to welcome Missy Franklin to the Wheaties family, and look forward to her performance this year,” says Jenna Lynch, Wheaties senior associate marketing manager.
Of the new partnership, Franklin says, “It’s an honor to be part of Team Wheaties. It’s an iconic brand that celebrates not just athletic achievements but also an athlete’s character and I am proud to be part of such a great team of athletes.”
Among other races, Franklin is looking to make the U.S. Olympic team in her signature backstroke events. She won the 100m backstroke and 200m backstroke gold medals at the 2012 London Olympic Games, the latter in World Record time.
In her young but already memorable career, Franklin has also been awarded Laureus ‘Sportswoman of the Year’, and earned the ESPY for Best Female Olympian in 2013 and Best Female College Athlete in 2015.
