Michigan D2 State Champ Sophia Schott Commits to Northwestern

The Northwestern women will be adding depth to their sprint group next season, as Michigan-based true sprinter Sophia Schott has given her commitment to join the Wildcats in Fall 2017. Schott is a native of Bloomsfield Hills, Michigan, where she trains with Motor City Aquatics. She’ll be making the move to Northwestern after graduating from Bloomfield Hills Marian at the end of this school year.

During the 2015-16 season, Schott was a 2-time medalist at the 2015 Michigan Girls Division 2 High School State Championships. There, she won the 50 free, earning gold with a personal best 22.99. She also set a personal best 50.67 in the 100 free there for a silver medal. At the 2016 version of that meet, which took place last weekend, Schott picked up 2 more medals, bringing home silver in both the 50 free and 100 free.

Schott’s Top Times:

  • 50 free- 22.99
  • 100 free- 50.67
  • 200 free- 1:55.72

At Northwestern, Schott could have an immediate impact for the Wildcats at the Big Ten Championships. Her best time in the 50 free would’ve qualified for the C-final last season, and makes her a strong candidate for the free relays. Additionally, her time in the 100 free is within tenths of what it took to score at the 2016 conference meet.
