Michael Phelps further solidified his legendary athlete status by coming away with an additional 5 gold medals while competing at the 2016 Olympic Games, bringing his career total to an astounding 23 gold medals.
The 31-year-old Baltimore native has proven time and again he has what it takes in the pool, but now in his retirement, Phelps is putting some of his other talents on display. His pop culture stock continues to rise, as he already has made an appearance on America’s Got Talent, as well as a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
However, things are about to be taken to yet another level, as the most decorated Olympian of all time tries his skills at lip syncing. Just announced by the Spike TV network, Phelps will be appearing on a special episode of ‘Lip Sync Battle: All Stars Live’.
According to Spike, the episode featuring Phelps will be a one-hour special ‘showcasing some of the show’s most popular and memorable past performances along with other A-list celebrities and special surprise guests’. The show, which will also see John Legend, Olivia Munn and Terry Crews among the famous faces, is scheduled to air live on September 11th at 8pm Eastern and will be the first time that viewers watching at home will be able to vote for their favorite All-Star in real-time.
Says Executive Producer Casey Patterson, “Our all-star performers are in full battle mode and their energy is through the roof knowing they will be going up against the ultimate all-star and winner of 23 gold medals, Michael Phelps.”
“Our fans know how much Michael loves music and that it’s a part of his own battle prep, so our performers are prepared to bring their ‘A game’ Sunday night.”
The “Lip Sync Battle” series is Spike TV’s most-watched original series in network history.
He was great! A long way from that SNL skit he did 8 yrs ago.
Love MP but this will likely be painfully awkward. That said, I’ll be watching!
Lol and he won.
It would be sweet/hilarious if he did Stick Talk. And its cable, so the possibility exists, however small.
So glad to see a different side of Phelps lately! Can’t wait to see which songs he chooses to lip sync to.
Michael has definitely learned from the DUI’s from a few years ago & turned his life around. Ought to be fun!
