DAYTON, Ohio – Miami’s first meet as a combined swimming and diving program was a successful one as both the men and women topped Wright State in a dual competition on Saturday afternoon.
The RedHawk women blew past the Raiders with a 190-51 victory while the men edged past WSU with a 131-110 win. Miami’s women racked up 12 event wins while the men placed first in seven events.
Among the victorious women were Pei Lin, who claimed both the one-meter (331.90) and three-meter (293.70) dives to amass 18 points for the Red and White. Taylor LeCount and Jenna Karrow each placed third and fourth for Miami with one-meter scores of 233.78 and 227.85 and three-meter scores of 238.98 and 219.22, respectively.
Back in the pool, Elise Campbell emerged with an individual victory in the 100-yard freestyle, where she won by nearly a second and a half (52.98). She also helped lead two victorious relay groups, teaming with Izzy Herb, Stephanie LeMire and Morgan Quesnel to claim the 200-yard medley relay (1:47.54) and matching with Abby Stone, Ella Moynihan and Grace Van Fossen to win the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:39.02).
Other victorious RedHawk women in the short events included Lemire in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.86), Quesnel in the 100-yard butterfly (57.87), Herb in the 100-yard backstroke (56.88) where she won by almost three seconds, Moynihan with a similarly impressive win in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.72) while also taking home the 500-yard freestyle (5:06.38) and Emma Bradley in the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:33.19. Also, Holly Schuster took home the 400-yard individual medley by about five seconds with her 4:32.95.
On the men’s side, Sean Sargent scored a 325.90 to claim the one-meter dive while his 304.05 in the three-meter dive was six-tenths of a point off WSU’s Mitchell Godar’s winning dive.
In the pool, Nicholas Wukovits posted individual wins in the 100-yard backstroke (58.28) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:08.68). Another two-event winner was Lucas Brock, who took gold in the 100-yard freestyle (47.15) while teaming up with Nick Ward, Ross Westrick and Jack Strauss in the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:25.78). James Wray won the 100-yard backstroke in 52.10 while Justin Andrews (9:57.08) narrowly edged teammate Jake Precious (9:57.45) in the 1000-yard freestyle.
The RedHawks swim next on Oct. 21, when they head to Purdue.

The Wright State men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams hosted Miami Saturday as the WSU men fell 131-110 and the women lost 190-51.
The men were by first place finishes by PJ Musser (200 free), Bradford Johnson (50 free), Dominic Poletta (100 fly), Thomas Downey (500 free), Mitchell Godar (3 meter) and the 200 medley relay. The women were paced by a first place finish from Ashlyn Roberts (50 free).
The Raiders will next be in action on Saturday, October 22, at IUPUI
