Team USA brought home the gold in both the men’s and women’s 10K event at the 2012 Jr. Pan Pacific Championship. Â Becca Mann of Clearwater took the title for the women and David Heron of Mission Viejo topped the field for the men. Â It was a great race on an amazing course and the athletes were even accompanied by dolphins along the way. Â If there could ever be paradise in a 10,000 meter swim this was it. Â Complete results are at USA Swimming’s Jr. Pan Pacs Page.

I think that open water swimming in the US has already taken that leap that Mike refers to. The last 3 years have been massive steps up. I think the idea that everyone who can do 800 or 1500 in the pool can be a good 10K swimmer is not correct (nor, obviously, it is something that all good 800 or 1500 swimmers would enjoy).
Becca Mann has done a lot of racing since Trials… and Florida is probably back in school already… If ever there was a kid who deserved a week to chill… 🙂
She is for real, that much is for sure.
IIRC, Mann is home-schooled, and could have been doing homework between sessions in Hawaii.
Becca Mann is staying on to race some great competition at the 43rd Waikiki Roughwater Swim. She definitely swam a smart race in last Monday’s 10K
