16 year old Madi Mintenko posted a huge swim on night 3 in Austin winning the 100 fly in a 58.73. That was a big personal best for the Virginia commit (2025) as her old best time was a 1:00.25 that she swam just last week at the Colorado State Championships. Mintenko’s time sits at #15 15-16 age group all-time, notably two spots ahead of new World Record holder in the event Gretchen Walsh who swam a 58.84 in 2019.
The 100 fly was the race of the night as 14 year old Audrey Derivaux was 2nd in a 58.93, the #2 time in the age group of all-time. Dakota Luther was 3rd in a 59.03.
14 year old Brinkleigh Hansen also moves up in her age group all-time rankings as she swam to a best time 4:15.85 in the 400 free. She now sits at #37 all-time, moving up from #56 as her previous best time of a 4:16.93 that she swam two weeks ago. She has now dropped about three and a half seconds this season as her best time was a 4:19.28 a year ago.
The final win on the girls side came from Olivia Roberts who swam a 2:31.13 in the 200 breast. That was a two second drop off her previous best time of a 2:33.64 from just last month.
Tennessee commit Grayson Nye swam to a lifetime best in the men’s 200 breast touching in a 2:14.83. That was faster than his old best time of a 2:15.34 from the end of last summer. He also was about two seconds faster today than he was at US Olympic Trials as he swam a 2:16.47 for 59th then.
Leo Pelaez dropped four seconds off his best time to win the 400 free in a 3:54.38. His old best time was a 3:58.66. He battled it out with Daniel Li of Princeton who touched in a 3:54.73.
16 year old Rowan Cox swam to a 53.57 in the 100 fly, over half a second off his lifetime best of a 52.80 that he swam for 19th at US Olympic Trials last month. Cox will represent the US in the event at Junior Pan Pacs in Australia next month.
Interesting how she shows so much promise in her parents’ primary events (200fr – mom, 100fl – dad).
Apparently Leo pelaez dropped from a 4:03 to a 3:54 in 1 year. 9 SECONDS!!!
Must be a thrill to be well into the 58s for your first time under 1:00
