Maddie Barta from the Lake County Swim Team in Wisconsin has verbally committed to the Purdue Boilermakers, according to Wisca.net.
Barta joins her brother Evan, currently a junior at Purdue, and her father Gregg in the Purdue lineage.
Maddie is primarily a backstroker who finished 4th at the Wisconsin State Championship meet as a sophomore in the 100 back and 3rd as a junior for Arrowhead High School.
In yards, her best times in the backstrokes are 56.58 and 2:02.15, with a 23.88 50 free kicker. She really has a chance to continue developing in that 50 free, having shown her potential with a 23.08 relay split as she anchored Arrowhead to the Division I state championship in the 200 medley relay last season.
Purdue has a good young backstroker in sophomore Hannah Manger who led the team with a 54.7 last season, and with the addition of both Barta and Haley Rowley next fall, they’ll really have the beginnings of a backstroke group that can match the overall backstroke depth of the Big Ten.
Chris Glafenhein of Tennessee Pilot Aquatic Club has verbally committed to Queens University of Charlotte in NC.
