Mac Boyle Commits to Indiana as The Village School’s First-Ever College Swimmer

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Mac Boyle from KATY Aquatics and The Village School in Katy, Texas has verbally committed to Indiana as a member of the high school class of 2020. He first committed in November of 2019.

I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at the University of Indiana! I would like to thank my friends and family most of all for supporting me all the way. Go Hoosiers!

Boyle is the first swimmer in program history to commit to swim in college: a huge opening salvo for his high school coach Stephanie Payne. While the school, which offers K-12 education, was established in 1966, it only expanded to serve high school students in 2009.

As a senior this season, Boyle was the TAPPS Division I State Champion in the 100 yard backstroke. TAPPS is one of two private school-only leagues in the state of Texas, and Division I encompasses that league’s biggest schools.

Primarily a backstroker, Boyle’s best times came at the 2019 Sectionals and Winter Junior – West Championship meets. He also finished 6th in the 50 back in long course at the 2019 Summer NCSA Junior National Championships.

Boyle’s best times in yards:

  • 50 free – 22.41
  • 100 free – 47.11
  • 200 free – 1:42.80
  • 100 back – 50.31
  • 200 back – 1:49.51
  • 100 fly – 50.97
  • 200 fly – 1:53.56
  • 200 IM – 1:55.78

Boyle joins arguably Indiana’s best training group next season. At the team’s season-ending Big Ten Championship meet, junior Gabriel Fantoni won the 100 back, freshman Brendan Burns was 2nd, and junior Jacob Steele was 6th. The team’s 118 points at Big Tens in the 100 back was its second-best event total, behind only the 100 free (123 points). Fantoni was also the conference champion in the 200 back.

It took a 48.2 and 1:46.04 to qualify for a scoring final in the backstroke races at Big Tens.

Congratulations, Mac! Gonna need to learn the name of your school – it’s Indiana University, not Univ. of Indiana! LOL

I think his coach is Stephanie Phillips, not Stephanie Payne.
