… I think “they both” should’ve trained for 100s & 200s, a Mark Spitz-like schedule. Phelps didn’t really want to train for it, and it burned the speed out Lochte. (Sure he got the gold, but could he have gotten gold in the 2-back, 2-IM & 2-free? It’s a good question.) Training for the 4-IM is a killer. The fact that Phelps can do a 47.1 flying start 100 free and 50 point 100 fly is amazing training for a 4-IM….
Mel, ONE MORE THING! After Michael wins the 100 fly tomorrow, PLEASE convince him to take a year off and then train at your old team, SwimMAC, for the 100 fly and 400 FR & MR in Rio!!! We NEED him to get back the 400 FR and KEEP the 400 MR, and he needs to become the first Olympian in ANY individual event to 4-peat!!!
aww that’s so nice of u..i love Michael Phelps so much but i don’t think he’ll be competing in Rio..); i can surely say that the sport of swimming Will never be the same again without its biggest star..and that’s MP..
I don’t think he had a shot of beating Agnel 400IM or not lol
Not with that crazy relay swim. But he may have beaten Agnel in the individual race
Doubt it. He’s not as young as Agnel he couldn’t have made such a big drop in time.
Glad to see you eat your words on Lochte surpassing Phelps’ legacy, GMM. 50.7? I think he can go faster then that tomorrow.
Mel, I hope you’re right about McGill and Phelps! I also hope Lochte focuses his program more for 2016. This 200 back 200 IM double just isn’t going to work for him. I say, with Grevers/Thoman likely retiring, that he focuses on 100 back, 200 IM (That’s the one he’s never won despite his great talent in the event, and it’s more of a sprint) and trying to make the relays (more sprint work could help his 100 free). That way he could decrease total number of swims/racing yardage significantly but potentially still win 5 medals, as he did in London. Sixteen medals would put him behind only Michael for male Olympians. I’m sure he wants to know what I… Read more »
