The Liberty swimming & diving team swept Atlantic Sun Swimming & Diving weekly honors for the second week in a row and fifth time this season.
Senior Meagan Tuohy was named ASUN Women’s Diver of the Week, while senior Abbie Shaw was tabbed as ASUN Women’s Swimmer of the Week.
Shaw has received four career conference swimmer of the week honors, including two this season (also Oct. 31). Tuohy receives her first career diver of the week award.
So far this season, Liberty has earned six ASUN Diver of the Week honors and five ASUN Swimmer of the Week awards. The Lady Flames swept the awards on Oct. 3 (Mary Herndon, Kamryn Cannings), Oct. 31 (Maddie Freece, Abbie Shaw), Nov. 21 (Mary Herndon, Kamryn Cannings), Jan. 23 (Maddie Freece, Grace Isaacs) and Jan. 30 (Meagan Tuohy, Abbie Shaw).
A Dover, Pa., native, Tuohy scored a team-best 557.93 points on one-meter and three-meter on Saturday. She opened the weekend with a second-place showing on three-meter springboard, scoring 267.75 points. On Saturday, she scored 290.18 points on one-meter, outscoring the nearest competitor by over 15 points. That score of 290.18 points was her best one-meter score so far this season.
Hailing from Niwot, Colo., Shaw won both the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke against Campbell while also swimming on three winning relays. Shaw won the 100 backstroke in 55.26, beating the second-place finisher by 2.71 seconds. The senior claimed victory in the 200 backstroke in 2:01.58, 3.5 seconds faster than the runner-up. She led off the winning 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay and swam on Liberty’s winning 400 freestyle relay.
The Lady Flames won each of the last five CCSA Championships. Liberty will look to win its sixth straight conference title, competing at the 2024 ASUN Swimming & Diving Championships, which will be held Feb. 21-24 at Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn.
