Louisville, Kentucky-native Monica McGrath, a senior at duPont Manual High School, will join the Princeton University women’s swimming and diving team’s Class of 2019 in the fall.
“Princeton has always been my dream school because of its renowned academics and great swim team. It’s an honor to be a part of the class of 2019 and I can’t wait to get started!”
McGrath is primarily a distance freestyler, although she excels at both ends of the range. At the 2015 Kentucky High School Athletic Association Swimming & Diving Championships, she placed second in the women’s 500 free (4:49.74) and third in the 200 free (1:49.90), both with lifetime-bests. She also anchored duPont Manual’s third-place 200 free relay with a 23.59 and led off their 400 free relay. Her top times are:
Event | SCY | LCM |
1650/1500 free | 16:44.95 | 17:33.67 |
1000/800 free | 10:05.75 | 8:58.62 |
500/400 free | 4:49.74 | 4:20.30 |
200 free | 1:49.90 | 2:04.00 |
100 free | 50.87 | 58.27 |
50 free | 24.05 | 27.15 |
200 fly | 2:04.79 | 2:21.59 |
100 fly | 57.48 | 1:04.91 |
McGrath should be a big contributor to the Tigers’ efforts from her first days suited up in orange and black; her times would have placed her in the “A” finals of the 500 free and 200 free, and the “B” final of the 1650, at the 2015 Ivy League Championships.
