World Champion Marco Koch and Germany’s fastest backstroker Jan-Philip Glania, bronze medalist in the 100 m backstroke at the 2014 European Championships, train in Belek Turkey at the moment to get ready for the Mare Nostrum tour and the Olympic Games. The German National Team have prefered the Gloria Sports Arena with its perfect training facilities and the warm Turkish weather more than once to prepare for the season highlights. Marco Koch and Jan-Philip Glania share the pool with some members of the German Paralympic national team – among others Tobias Pollap who won the silver medal in the 200 m IM at the 2016 IPC European Open Championships in Funchal and Bastian Fontayne who finished 7th in the 400 m free at the same event. Pollap is already qualified for the Paralympics in Rio.
So you can see in the beautiful outdoor pool in Belek Jan-Philip Glania in the backstroke, Marco Koch in breaststroke, Tobias Pollap in butterfly and Bastian Fontayne in the freestyle leg in a spontaneous medley relay. Their time: respectable 3:59,02 – with Glania split 57,5, Koch clocked a 1.01,9, Pollap 1:01,7 and Fontayne finished in 57,6.
Koch will participate in all three stops of the Mare Nostrum Series 2016, Glania only in Canet and Barcelona.
