Katinka Hosszu Wins Two Events On Night 1 Of Hungarian Nationals

Today was the first day of finals at the 2014 Hungarian Nationals. Katinka Hosszu pulled off a nice double, winning the 200 butterfly right before swimming the 400 IM and claiming her second final of the day.

In the first event, Dominik Komza claimed the first win of the meet in the final of the men’s 200 freestyle. Kozma killed it in the final, winning by almost two seconds with a time of 1:47.71. Four swimmers were able to break 1:50 in the final. Jan Switkowski was second at 1:49.40, Peter Bernek was third with a time of 1:49.78, and Andreas Vazaios was fourth with his time of 1:49.84.

Katinka Hosszu won a tight 200 meter butterfly final, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying. Hosszu won with a final time of 2:08.29. She touched out Evelyn Verraszto and Liliana Szilagyi for the win. Verraszto was second at 2:08.33 and Szilagyi was third with a 2:08.37. Immediately after, Hosszu won the women’s 400 IM with a time of 4:40.86. Reka Gyorgy finished second at 4:42.43.

In the men’s 400 IM, Gergely Gyurta won by a good distance with his time of 4:18.29. Norbert Szabo finished second with his time of 4:24.68.

In the men’s 50 backstroke, Tomasz Polewka got his hand on the wall to with a time of 25.48. Touching just behind him in second was Gabor Balog at 25.48. The next event was the women’s 50 breaststroke. Anna Sztankovics had the fastest time with a 31.92. She cleared almost a second between herself and the second place finisher, Lisa Fissneider, who touched with a 32.75.
