The Central Connecticut women’s swimming and diving team defeated host Stony Brook 162-138 in dual meet action Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devils won 10 of the 16 events competed, with Katie Czulewicz winning four times on the afternoon.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- Megan Dunningan, Ella Discala, Cassidy Stoler and Katie Czulewicz opened the meet with a win in the 400-medley relay, touching at 3:56.67; 1.7 seconds in front of the Stony Brook squad
- Abbey Keane steadily pulled away from the field on her way to a win in the 1,000 with a final time of 10:44.61
- Czulewicz earned individual wins in the 200 (1:56.88) and 500 (5:10.95) freestyles, posting the top time in the league in the 500
- Discala won both individual breaststroke events, finishing the 100 in a time of 1:06.86, and the 200 in 2:25.90 – both of which are among the top-five times thus far in the NEC
- Elyse Boothroyd placed second on the low board, with a score of 226.27 and Jewelle Maziarz placed second on the 3-meter with 222.97 points
- Cassidy Stotler touched first in the 200 IM at 2:10.32, tops in the league this season
- Kelly Stotler, Czulewicz, Gabby Spaciano and Shannon Welcome combined for a win the 400-freestyle relay, winning by 11 seconds, with a time of 3:37.54

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook University women’s swimming and diving team suffered its first loss of the 2022-23 season on Saturday at University Pool against Central Connecticut State.
The Blue Devils knocked off the Seawolves by a final score of 162-138.
The Seawolves had a student-athlete finish in first place in seven out of the 16 events in the meet. Senior Maddy Enda and junior Sara DiStefano each recorded a pair of wins, while freshman Michelle Vu, junior Mary Kate Conway and senior Reagan MacDonald each added victories of their own.
Enda earned wins in the 100 and 200 butterfly with final times of 57.75 and 2:09.30, respectively. Enda has now won the 200 butterfly twice through two meets this season.
DiStefano earned wins in the 1-meter diving and 3-meter diving on Saturday, after coming in second place in the 3-meter diving last week against Sacred Heart. The junior tallied 241.05 points to earn the victory in the 1-meter and 241.72 points to take the 3-meter.
Conway earned a win in the 100 free, Vu won the 50 free and MacDonald won the 200 back. DiStefano and MacDonald both recorded their first wins of the season.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Enda earned Stony Brook’s first victory of the meet in the 200 butterfly. She finished with a final time of 2:09.30 and earned nine points. Her second win of the day came in the 100 butterfly and with a time of 57.75.
- DiStefano finished with multiple victories. She totaled a score of 241.05 in the 1-meter diving event and 241.72 in the 3-meter diving event.
- Sophomore Brenna McLaughlin, graduate Jessica Salmon, Vu and Conway combined for a second-place finish in the 400-medley relay to start the meet off. They finished less than two seconds behind Central Connecticut State’s winning group.
- Conway earned an individual victory in the 100 free with a final time of 53.78.
- MacDonald finished the 200 backstroke in 2:06.87, winning the event.
- Vu earned a victory in the 50 free with a final time of 24.70.
NEXT UP
The Stony Brook women’s swimming & diving team will be back in action on November 12 at 1 p.m. when it travels to Brooklyn Heights to clash with St. Francis Brooklyn. It will be the Seawolves’ first meet on the road this season.
