First year head coach Rick Demont has added another recruit to his women’s class of 2019. Karli Thuen of San Clemente Aquatics in California is the latest athlete to verbally commit to the University of Arizona.
“I am so excited and honored to be attending the University of Arizona next year,”Thuen said. “The team has such great chemistry and amazing coaches together with outstanding academics. I simply feel that it is the perfect fit for me.”
Thuen’s 200 and 400 IM best times would’ve placed her in the C finals of the 2014 Pac 12 Championships. Thuen has also showcased her solid sprint freestyle ability as a member of the National High School record-setting 400 freestyle relay team in 2013 splitting 51.68.
She proves to be a fairly versatile athlete and some of her best times in yards include:
100 FR – 52.69
500 FR- 4:53.75
200 IM – 2:01.81
400 IM- 4:19.78
200 FL- 2:02.95
Thuen currently attends JSerra Catholic High School; an institution that has already sent multiple swimmers to to-flight schools in this girls’ class. That includes Kaitlyn Albertoli to Stanford and Brittany Kahn to Duke. Another former JSerra swimmer, though she transferred out as a junior, Katie McLaughlin is committed to Cal.
During Thuen’s time at the school, the girls’ team has won two CIF Southern Section Division I (big school) championships, and placed runner-up in a third in 2014.
