Swim Instructor/Age Group Swim Coach

Job Description:

Location: Highland Park High School, Emerson Avenue, Dallas, TX, USA

The Dallas Mustangs, a year-round USA Swimming recognized club team in the DFW area is looking for a swim instructor to lead our learn-to-swim/pre-competitive program. This person will be assisted by multiple junior coaches. We are looking for someone to help build the pre-competitive program and use it as a building block towards the competitive groups. This person will oversee 3 different groups divided out by ability (Colts, Ponies, Pre-Comp). This person MUST have prior learn-to-swim experience working with swimmers ages 3+. The instructor is expected to lead and teach the different groups both in and out of the water. For those interested, please reach out. Please include job history and prior experience. Job expectations:

– 2+ years prior learn-to-swim instruction experience

-Ability to coach both in and out of the water

-Ability to lead junior coaches in direction and instruction

-Be vocal and animated in coaching style

-Assist swimmers and parents with questions/concerns

Group info:

Standards / Requirements for entry into each group:



-most novice group

-need water assistance (coaches in water)

-5 swimmers max per coach

-Minimum age: 3 years

-Focus: Comfort in water; Learn to submerge in water; floating/kicking on stomach/back

-Final goal to move up to next group: Understanding of the freestyle stroke

-Time: 4:00-4:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays



-Water safe

-Minimum age: 4 years

-5 swimmers max per coach

-Focus: Swimmer should already feel comfortable in the water. Can swim freestyle to coach/down pool. Add arm strokes on back; introduce streamlines/dives, doggie paddle/breaststroke

-Final goal to move up to next group: Mastery of freestyle & backstroke, understanding of breaststroke

-Time: 4:00-4:30 Mondays and Wednesdays



-Water Safe group

-Minimum age: 5 years

-10 swimmers max per coach

-Focus: Freestyle and backstroke should be already be mastered. Fine tuning breaststroke (legal kick); introduction of dolphin kick and butterfly; mastery of dives; introduction of flip turns

-Final goal to move up to next group: ability to do all 4 strokes, can dive safely, understanding of a flip turn

-Time: 4:30-5:00 Mondays and Wednesdays
