The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is one of the largest charities in the DC area. The Y serves as an anchor in the community offering programs and services encompassing youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

The YMCA Bethesda Chevy Chase is in search of a dynamic Swim Coach that can bring passion and enthusiasm to our amazing Aquatics department!

The basic function and scope of responsibility include, provide supervision and direction of a safe, positive and organized competitive swimming program following the philosophy and goals of the YMCA of the USA and YMCA of Metropolitan Washington Aquatic programs, that will support youth development in spirit, mind and body, strengthen family support and encourage social responsibility. Ensuring that the primary responsibility is the safety of participants during practice sessions.

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position would include, ensures adequate safety procedures are in place for all practices times. Communicates directions and/or corrections in a clear and concise manner. Maintains practice control and discipline at all times. Coach must be in proper attire (bathing suit, t-shirt and shorts) and on pool deck at least five minutes before start of swim practice. Maintains rosters and attendance records. Designs and delivers practice sessions that teach competitive swimming stroke skills and train swimmers in preparation for competition.

Education, Certification, Skills, and Experience:
Must be 17 years of age
Obtain YMCA Swim Coach Certification within three (3) months of hire
Will be required to complete the YMCA Principles of YMCA Competitive Swimming and Diving within first year of employment
Obtain ASCA (American Swimming Coaches Association) level 1 certification- The Foundations of Coaching within first year of employment

Working Conditions:
Must have the physical ability to meet all prerequisites for Lifeguarding
Must be able to lift and move around objects of 40 pounds or more
Must be able to stand or sit on the pool deck for up to 4 hours
Must be able to actively teach the YMCA competitive swim program in the water
Must be able to communicate clearly with both children and adults
Ability to see and hear participants in distress or asking for assistance
