Summit City Aquatics is seeking an experienced, motivated individual for the position of Head  Coach. This knowledgeable individual will be responsible for directing and overseeing all aspects of training and competition for a team of swimmers with a wide variety of backgrounds and ages. This individual must have the  ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with staff, swimmers, volunteers, and program participant  parents. 

The Head Coach will be expected to develop and cultivate a culture that aligns with the club’s mission statement:  We seek to create the best possible swimming experience for each and every athlete in our trust. To that  end, we will employ the very latest techniques and training by providing experienced, professional and  highly regarded coaches. In addition, we seek to build team spirit, teach delayed gratification and create a  focus on personal achievement along with respect for one’s self, teammates, coaches and competitors.”  

Summit City Aquatics (SCA) is a year-round competitive program with over 200 registered swimmers that offers  opportunities at all levels. We are a product of two established local clubs, SWAC and TRAC, that merged in 2020  and operate at 2 different facilities within the city. Prospective swimmers now can take advantage of multiple sites  for practice, practice under the leadership of an experienced coaching staff, choose intensity of involvement in  swimming from competing at the highest levels to simply swimming for exercise, and most importantly build lifelong  friendships with other swimmers and families. In 2020 we were recognized as a Bronze Level Club through the  USA Swimming Club Excellence Program. Our Age Group placed third at the 2020 Indiana SCY Age Group Championship. SCA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization under the authority of a Board of Directors.  

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Promote and encourage an educational, safe, and inviting experience for all participants in pursuit  of growth and excellence  
  • Enthusiastic leader and visible, engaged ambassador of SCA, and the sport of swimming  • Develop and oversee training programs for all age groups  
  • Primary lead coach for National Focus Training Group  
  • Plan team practice and year competition schedules, including team and coach travel, coach  scheduling, meet entry assignments/administration 
  • Supervise and collaborate with a dedicated coaching staff
  • Exhibit high collaborative, cooperative leadership style with all constituencies so that coaching  style, training methods, performance correction approach, and teamwork are transparent to all.  
  • Acts as the liaison between Summit City Aquatics, USA Swimming, Indiana Swimming, Swim  Coaches and Parents  
  • Ensure that all practices are conducted in a professional manner according to SCA and USA  Swimming Safe Sport requirements 
  • Provide guidance and support to athletes during the college recruiting  process
  • Maintain website with updated practice and meet schedule 
  • Attend board meetings providing updates on staff and group progress 

Essential Qualifications and Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Education, Psychology and or other related academic discipline preferred
  • 5 years of demonstrated leadership in the building, leading and administration at the club or collegiate level  
  • Member in good standing with USA Swimming, including being current on all background checks,  certifications, and athlete protection training  
  • ASCA Level 4 or higher   
  • Demonstrated proficiency in handling conflict and collaboration up, down and across organizations  
  • Excellent communication skills  
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Team Unify and Hy-Tek software  

Performance Standards 

  • Annual performance evaluation 
  • Attainment of annual goals established between Board of Directors and Coach 


  • Pay is commensurate upon experience. Bonus structure available based on team performance  and annual performance review. Reimbursement for any fees needed for certification, professional  growth and travel expenses for meet attendance.
