The Gordon JCC is seeking a Head Swim Coach to lead our swim team program for the summer season, with the opportunity to continue in a year-round part-time role.
This position is ideal for a coach who enjoys working with a wide range of ages and skill levels, values technique development, and can help create a positive, structured, and fun team environment. Our program serves swimmers ages 5–18 and is designed to be competitive while remaining approachable for families looking for a less time-intensive option than traditional year-round USA Swimming programs.
Position Overview
The Head Swim Coach will be responsible for leading afternoon practices during the summer and year-round season, coaching a small number of meets, and helping swimmers grow in technique, confidence, and love for the sport.
This is a part-time/hourly position with an immediate seasonal need for summer, and the possibility to continue throughout the year.
Schedule and Commitment
Summer season:

Responsibilities
-
Lead and coach swim team practices for swimmers ages 5–18
-
Build strong, confident swimmers through both developmental and competitive training
-
Create and implement age-appropriate workouts for practice groups
-
Teach and refine stroke technique, starts, turns, and racing skills
-
Foster a positive team culture built on encouragement, accountability, and sportsmanship
-
Supervise swimmers during practices and meets while maintaining a safe environment
-
Monitor swimmer behavior and address discipline issues according to team policy
-
Evaluate swimmer progress and provide feedback to athletes and families as needed
-
Serve as a positive role model for swimmers and represent the Gordon JCC professionally
- Communicate with parents and organize parent volunteer duties

Ensure the pool deck and team equipment are organized and cleared after practice
- Stay up to date with league rules and attend league meetings

Respond appropriately in emergencies and carry out the Emergency Action Plan when needed
Qualifications

Minimum 18 years old
-
Previous swim team coaching and/or competitive swimming experience

Current American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Certification, or willingness to obtain

Ability to work weekday afternoons, some weekends, and assigned meets

Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills

Ability to work with swimmers of varying ages and abilities

Open to additional aquatics responsibilities if more hours are desired
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds

Ability to remain alert while standing, walking, and supervising for extended periods

Ability to work outdoors in heat and sun during the summer season
