Assistant Coach for Men’s and Women’s Swimming/Aquatics

 

The Athletics Department at Whittier College is seeking an Assistant Coach. The Assistant Coach will be responsible for the organization and management of an NCAA Division III Swim program in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the Athletics Department and the college.  Excellent communication skills; exhibit high ethical standards, and the ability to work in a team orientated environment.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Responsible for coaching and organizing all practices and games, recruiting quality student-athletes, budgeting, scheduling and travel planning, monitoring student-athlete academic progress and commitment to comply with all policies and regulations governing the NCAA.  The position will also entail secondary athletic administrative responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of Athletics.

 

This position is considered a Campus Security Authority.

This position is considered a mandated reporter.

 

Hours: varies

Exempt Status: Non-Exempt

Full Time/Part Time status: Full Time

Salary Range: $25.00 per hour; Salary will commensurate with experience, skills, and knowledge.

 

Reports to: Executive Director of Athletics

 

Location/Department: Whittier College (Main Campus)/Athletics Department

 

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with the Head Coach to establish a highly competitive NCAA and SCIAC Swim and Dive program
  • Exhibit high ethical standards, and the ability to work in a team orientated environment.
  • Coaching and organizing all practices and games.
  • Act as Lead Recruiter in the recruiting of quality student-athletes.
  • Ability to establish a budget and stay within the said budget.
  • Provide scheduling and scheduling conflict resolutions.
  • Point in team travel planning and support for experience growth for the team and Student Athletes
  • Monitoring student-athlete academic progress
  • Asst in Competitive Meet preparation and execution
  • Committed to comply with all policies and regulations governing the NCAA.

 

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Excellent Communication skill
  • Ability to teach fundamentals and expertise in the area of Swim events
  • Ability to make decisions and in place of the Head Coach if required

Position Specifications and Requirements:

Knowledge and Education:  Bachelor’s degree is required with a Master’s degree preferred. The successful candidate must have a minimum of 3 years coaching experience
