Title: AQUATICS DIRECTOR

Oversees the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and administration of the Asheville School’s aquatic facility. Oversees the hiring, training, testing, and certification of staff and student employees of the facility. Develops and implements various aquatic programs. Ensures that all appropriate water health and safety standards are maintained. This position reports to the School’s Athletic Director.
Duties and Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include the daily maintenance and year-round operation of our aquatic facility and all programming.
• Keep updated Certified Pool Operator license
• Daily maintain proper pool chemical levels and overall pool cleanliness
• Backwash and clean filters regularly
• Handle with any emergencies with pool equipment
• Manage all pool scheduling
• Write contracts for and maintain all relations with pool renters
• Swim test all Asheville School students
• Manage all aquatics programming and staffing for Asheville School events
• Teach and train faculty and coach CPR/ First Aid and Lifeguard courses
• Update Asheville School Emergency Action Plan on a yearly basis
• Meet with Health Department for inspections and maintain yearly permit
• Maintain all safety equipment
Serve as the Head Coach of the Asheville School Swim Team
• Coach swimmers throughout winter season
• Get suit sizes and order all suits, caps, shirts etc.
• Schedule all meets with other schools
• Recruit officials to get trained and certified so we have help at swim meets
• Find, schedule and get payment vouchers for all officials for each meet
• Act as Meet Director for all home meets. This includes finding timers/volunteers, hiring officials, creating meet files, and setting up Daktronics equipment for scoring
• Communicate with all coaches and AD’s regarding scoring, warm up and meet rules
• Maintain all pool records, state cuts, team records, CAA records, etc.
• Host CAA championship as meet director.
• Handle all travel plans to state swim meet including meal plans, hotels, rooming, etc.
• Spend copious time researching other teams for meet entries
• Play a lead role in attracting qualified student-athletes to the school
• Represent Asheville School at WNC High School swim meeting
• Represent Asheville School on NCISAA Swim Coaches Board as an officer
Serve as the school’s liaison to Blues Aquatics
• Maintain financial records and match Team Unify financials with School records
• Act as liaison between school and club
• Help with parent relations
• Coach when needed
• Hire and train coaches for BAQ
• Oversee head coach and meet weekly
• Oversee hiring and evaluation of head coach
• Help with overall vision and direction of club
Minimum Job Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
• Certification/Licensure American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor; Certification American Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR/AED Instructor; Certification National Swimming Pool Foundation Certified Pool Operator Certification; Certified as an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operation (CPO).
• Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
• Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
• Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
• Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
• Knowledge of contract documents and specifications.
• Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications including the MS office suite of tools.
• Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
• Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
• Knowledge of optimal swimming pool water chemistry, temperature, and cleanliness standards.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and guidelines for the operation of public swimming pools and public baths.
• Ability to recruit, train, and certify student lifeguards and others.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of operating a large aquatic facility.
• Skills in program planning, development, revenue generation and producing positive net income to achieve budget commitments.
• Knowledge of certification standards in area of specialty.
• Knowledge of budget preparation, cost estimating, monitoring, and fiscal management principles and procedures.
