Welsh swimmer Jazmin Carlin took a silver medal in the women’s 800 free on Thursday at the 2014 World Short Course Championships in Doha, Qatar, and in the process broke the British Record over a short course meters pool.
Carlin swam an 8:08.16, which just snuck under the record of 8:08.25 done by British distance legend Rebecca Adlington, who was an 8:08.25 in 2008.
Carlin’s old personal best was an 8:12.01, done a year ago in Glasglow.
The comparative splits:
|Adlington ’08||Carlin ’14|
Carlin, with a very fast closing 50 meters, overtook Adlington’s pace for the record – though she was well too far back to overcome Belmonte for the win. The time also puts Carlin into 9th place on the all-time list globally in the event.
